Nudist Weddings Could Become Legal If Wedding Reforms Go Forward

Naturists believe the human body was not designed to be wrapped up in clothes – they live their lives in the nude, and more often than not, the rest of the UK population lets them get on with it.

So it’s not surprising that some naturists don’t want to spend the most important day of their lives – their wedding day – in a big white dress or uncomfortable suit.

A paper published yesterday by Justice Secretary Chris Grayling confirmed that British Naturism – an organisation aiming to combat prejudice against outdoor nudism – is among those supporting a review of wedding laws in the UK.

Avid naturist John Weston, 72, is hoping that in 2015, he can some forge firm friendships with fellow enthusiasts. However, after watching the Channel Four documentary The Naked Village last month, he has been inspired to get back out there and make an appeal for fellow nudists to socialise with.

British Naturism very much welcomes the ruling by the European Court of Human Rights that nudity is a means of expression and that Article 10 of the European Convention of Human rights applies to nudity.

This is a preliminary analysis of the court’s ruling regarding Stephen Gough. The judgement only considers some aspects of the case, and there are no surprises, but it does establish some points of law that are important for Naturism and the fight against prudery and body-shame.

Nudefest: Britain’s biggest naturist event gets underway in Cornwall

British Naturism’s Nudefest 2014, the UK’s largest gathering of its kind, begins today in Cornwall in south-west England. It follows on from World Naturist Week, whose celebrants across the globe spent last week breaking free from the confines of clothing. VoR’s Brendan Cole spoke to Andrew Welch, a spokesperson for British Naturism, which is celebrating its 50th anniversary this year.
